Butler Intermediate student Giana Warnick's thoughtful and inspiring essay on Jane Austen earned her second place.
Jane Austen, one of the most successful novelists of all time, has made a significant impact on history and me. She has inspired other females who may have wanted to become novelists but were uncertain of their chances of success. Although she only wrote six stories in her time, they all became great successes. Her novels became well known across the globe, making her exceptionally popular as a writer.
Jane Austen, having written several of the most well known and best stories, inspires me. She followed her passion and pursued a career in writing, becoming a great success and leading other women to do the same. Jane Austen once said, "There is a stubbornness about me that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. My courage always rises at every attempt to intimidate me." I strive to be like her when I am older, I want to be able to overcome any and all obstacles that may come my way in the future. She never gave up in her writing career even when her novels were denied publication. She showed the world a glimpse of a lifestyle that had not been written about before. That inspires me.
She serves as a role model for me because I want to have confidence in my abilities like she had in hers. She knew she was capable of excelling in her reading and writing abilities. I am confident in my ability to read, but I always fear my writings are awful. She had a passion for reading and writing. Her striving to do what she loved inspires me to do the same. She faced challenges but she never backed down. She took the challenges head on and overcame them. When it comes to writing English essays or short stories, there is a fear in me and a lack of confidence that I wish was not there. She was told she could not publish her stories, but she did not stop writing. She continued, tried again, and succeeded. She is an inspiration and a role model to me because I want to be a great writer, like her, one day.
Our lives relate due to our love for books, reading and writing. "This library was open to Jane and Cassandra as well and the two made extensive use of it in both reading and writing endeavors, with Jane taking the lead in both." She had access to hundreds of books and writing tools, allowing her to explore her creativity. I have access to many books and writing tools, allowing me to do the same. Her goals for her future were the same as mine are now, to write great stories for everyone to enjoy. Austen is a great inspiration and role model to me because of her confidence in what she did, her propensity to inspire others, and her infinite creativity.
